Hungary’s Economy at Stake Amid Orbán’s Resistance to Presidential Changes

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has asserted Hungary’s right to resist any attempt to forcibly remove the nation’s president from office. Following a decisive parliamentary vote on the 17th Amendment to the Fundamental Law, Orbán took to social media to express his party’s stance against recognizing a president installed through methods he deems unlawful.

Orbán emphasized that he would consider any actions taken by such a president to be illegitimate. He vowed to stand against any unconstitutional efforts to depose the head of state, highlighting his commitment to uphold the current democratic framework. His statement reflects growing tensions within the country’s political landscape, as lawmakers debated the constitutional changes.

The Hungarian leader further cautioned that targeting the presidency could set a dangerous precedent. He suggested that similar tactics could potentially be used against other prominent figures, including critics and business leaders, thereby threatening the stability of Hungary’s political and social order.

Orbán’s comments have added fuel to an already intense political environment in Hungary, coming on the heels of the parliamentary decision regarding the constitutional amendment. The amendment has been a focal point of controversy, with the prime minister’s remarks underscoring the ongoing discord over the nation’s leadership and governance.
