Kazakhstan and Germany are poised to deepen their economic collaboration, building on decades of bilateral relations. This commitment was underscored during discussions in Berlin on September 29 between Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. The talks centered on enhancing cooperation in various sectors including investment, infrastructure, industry, and transport, with both leaders expressing a shared vision for future growth.
President Tokayev emphasized the importance of Germany as Kazakhstan’s key strategic partner in Europe, reflecting on the substantial progress the two countries have made over the last thirty years. To further bolster economic ties, Tokayev proposed the creation of a Kazakhstan-Germany Investment and Financial Platform. This initiative aims to support joint projects and streamline investments between the two nations.
In addition to his meeting with President Steinmeier, Tokayev engaged with German business leaders to explore opportunities in several sectors. Discussions highlighted potential cooperation in transport and logistics, industrial localization, engineering, metallurgy, and waste processing. Key areas of interest include the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route and the modernization of Kazakhstan’s railway infrastructure, alongside an expansion of manufacturing capabilities within the country.
The dialogue also opened the door for German companies to participate more actively in Kazakhstan’s industrial and infrastructure projects. This engagement not only promises to create new avenues for economic growth within Kazakhstan but also offers German enterprises enhanced access to the broader Central Asian market.
The discussions reflect a mutual commitment to strengthening economic ties, with both nations recognizing the strategic advantages of their partnership. As Kazakhstan and Germany look to the future, the groundwork laid during these talks is expected to pave the way for increased collaboration and shared prosperity.
