Mitsotakis Hails Chevron Bid as Proof of Greece’s Rising Energy Role

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has welcomed Chevron’s bid to explore four offshore hydrocarbon blocks, including two south of Crete, calling it a pivotal step that strengthens Greece’s geopolitical standing and positions the country as an emerging energy player.
Speaking during an official visit to western Athens, Mitsotakis described the move as “clear proof” of his government’s vision to enhance Greece’s role on the global energy map. He emphasized that such projects not only secure energy prospects but also elevate the nation’s strategic influence in the Eastern Mediterranean.
The prime minister also noted that he will host US Secretary of the Interior Doug Bergman in Athens, where discussions will focus on further advancing Greece’s strategic, geopolitical, and energy role.
