China-Germany Strengthen Economic Ties Through Enhanced Business Collaborations

In a move that underscores the evolving dynamics of international commerce, China and Germany are enhancing their business and technological collaboration, with a growing exchange of expertise and innovation between the two nations. This shift, highlighted in a recent joint research report, signifies a departure from the previous trend where technology primarily flowed from Germany to China. The report was presented during the China-Germany (China-Europe) Hidden Champions Forum 2026 in Beijing, an event that gathered over 400 business leaders and representatives from Europe and China in the city’s Shunyi district.

The findings from the research indicate a significant interest among European companies in expanding their operations in China. Notably, 38 percent of surveyed European firms expressed plans to boost their research and development investments within China. Furthermore, 40 percent of these companies aim to grant greater operational autonomy to their Chinese branches, reducing dependency on their German headquarters. This strategic shift reflects a broader trend of deepening integration and collaboration between the business sectors of both countries.

Simultaneously, Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers such as Li Auto and NIO are making significant inroads into the German market. These companies have set up research and design centers in Germany, underscoring the mutual exchange of technological innovations. This burgeoning two-way collaboration is poised to reshape the landscape of business and technology cooperation between China and Germany, fostering a more balanced and reciprocal partnership.

The forum also witnessed the inauguration of a public service station aimed at assisting businesses in overcoming technical trade barriers. Moreover, a new partnership initiative was introduced to encourage German and European enterprises to engage with Beijing’s economic and technological cooperation zone in Shunyi. These developments are part of a broader strategy to facilitate smoother business operations and strengthen economic ties between the regions.

According to Tang Wenhong, Beijing is committed to further promoting collaboration between Chinese and German companies. The city is actively seeking to attract innovative enterprises, thereby reinforcing its position as a leading international hub for science and technology. This strategic focus on innovation and cooperation is expected to bolster Beijing’s role in the global economic landscape, driving forward the shared aspirations of both China and Germany.
