‘Join Hands, Don’t Let Go’: Xi’s APEC Speech After US Pact

Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a speech focused on global cooperation at the APEC forum in South Korea, urging member nations to “join hands rather than letting go.” His address on Friday came just after securing a major one-year deal with the US.
Xi warned against “breaking supply chains” and called for “genuine multilateralism.” He encouraged nations to “actively seek more points of convergence of interests” and support open trade.
This conciliatory message was reinforced by the new deal struck with President Donald Trump. The pact includes the US slashing some tariffs and export controls, easing economic pressure.
In return, China committed to buying US soybeans and pausing new restrictions on rare earth exports. President Trump, who called the meeting “amazing,” confirmed China’s commitment, averting a potential 100% US tariff.
Furthermore, the US agreed to postpone a restrictive technology measure for one year, a move strongly opposed by Beijing. Xi said the deal should bring “peace of mind” to the world.
