Trump: London to Host Next Round of US-China Trade Negotiations

President Donald Trump announced Friday that London will be the venue for the upcoming round of trade negotiations between US and Chinese officials, set for Monday. This critical announcement follows a productive phone call on Thursday between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, where they discussed resolving the ongoing tariff dispute and issues related to rare earth minerals.
The American delegation for the talks will include Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. Trump voiced his confidence in the talks on social media, stating, “The meeting should go very well,” indicating an expectation of positive outcomes from the negotiations.
According to the Chinese foreign ministry, the approximately 90-minute conversation between the two leaders was initiated by President Trump. During this call, President Xi reportedly urged Trump to “remove the negative measures” that the US has imposed on China, underscoring Beijing’s position.
Adding a layer of nuance, the Chinese foreign ministry also noted Trump’s comment that “the US loves to have Chinese students coming to study in America,” a statement that stands in contrast to recent US policies regarding Chinese visas. This highlights the complex and often contradictory nature of US-China relations.
