€162M Lidl Hungary Logistics Hub Launches, Boosting Kiskunfélegyháza’s Economy

Lidl Hungary has made a substantial investment of nearly 60 billion forints, equivalent to approximately €162 million, to establish its largest warehouse in the country, located in Kiskunfélegyháza. This new logistics center is a significant development for the retailer, poised to supply an estimated 70 Lidl stores across Hungary. The expansive facility, spanning over 83,000 square meters, is not just a logistical milestone but also a boon for local employment, having already created over 400 jobs with plans to recruit an additional 50 employees shortly.

Central to the logistics hub’s operations are its 194 loading docks, complemented by a sizable 24,000-square-meter refrigerated section, ensuring efficiency and capacity in handling a wide range of products. Notably, the facility incorporates numerous energy-efficient technologies, including a 9,000-square-meter rooftop solar array. This installation, along with a system that repurposes waste heat from refrigeration for underfloor heating, underscores Lidl’s commitment to sustainability. Additionally, the site features a 10,000-square-meter area dedicated to biodiversity, enhancing the environmental aspect of the facility.

With an expected throughput of approximately 4,500 pallets of goods each day, the logistics center is set to fortify Lidl’s supply chain across Hungary. This development is strategically important for Lidl as it enhances the retailer’s ability to effectively distribute products nationwide. Currently operating 220 stores in Hungary, Lidl sources nearly 60% of its products from local suppliers, emphasizing its role in supporting the Hungarian economy and its producers.

The new logistics center is anticipated to play a pivotal role in Lidl’s ongoing expansion efforts and in strengthening its operations domestically. This move reflects Lidl’s strategic focus on sustainable growth and operational efficiency, as the company continues to expand its footprint and enhance its service capabilities in Hungary.
